You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown

 Pineville, LA…Tickets are now on sale for Theatre Louisiana College’s performance of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”.  Opening night will be Thursday, February 7th; doors open at 7:00 p.m. and curtain is at 7:30.

Additional evening performances will be February 8, 9 and 14-16. 

Matinee performances will be held Sunday, Feb. 10th & 17th at 2:30p.m.

Music Department to Host Roy-Lim recital

Pineville, LA… The Louisiana College Department of Music will host a recital featuring Shawn Roy and Chan Kiat Lim performing “Song Cycles by Twentieth Century American Composers”, on Tuesday, January 29th at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall (Weathersby Fine Arts Building) on the campus of Louisiana College. The recital is free and open to the public. Both Roy(bass-baritone) and Lim(pianist) are alumni of the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati and have performed concerts nationally.

Roy, a native of Louisiana, is a vocal instructor and director of the Opera Theater at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette since 1998. Prior to his appointment, he sang professionally with various companies including The New York City Opera National Company, Arizona Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Tulsa Opera, Virginia Opera, Forth Worth Opera, Center for Contemporary Opera in New York, West Norwegian Opera as well as toured in France, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland. Roy has appeared in a solo recital at the Trinity Church Noon Series in New York City and with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra in A Night at the Opera in 2004. Recently, he was the guest artist with the symphony in Copland’s Old American Songs. His future engagements include an appearance in Mozart’s Coronation Mass in spring 2008. Roy is currently serving as President of the South Louisiana Chapter of NATS.

Lim, a native of Malaysia, is a member of the piano faculty at UL-Lafayette. He has won several piano competitions including the Young Artist Concerto Competition, WVMTNA Collegiate Piano Competition, and WGUC Cincinnati Public Classical Radio Audition. Lim has received much exposure in chamber music and was the official accompanist for the 45th World Piano Competition and the instrumental and vocal collaborative pianist for the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca in Italy. An active recitalist, he has performed in the United States, Asia, and Europe, including solo recitals in Italy, Romania, and a New York City solo recital at Steinway Hall in fall 2006. His future engagements include a solo recital at the Penn Alps Music Festival in Maryland and an appearance as the guest artist for the West Virginia Music Teachers Association State Convention.

Campus closed for MLK Holiday and Evangelism Conference

Pineville, LA. …Louisiana College will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2008 in observance of the Martin Luther King holiday. The campus will also be closed on Tuesday, January, 22, 2008 for the Louisiana Baptist Evangelism Conference that will be held on campus.

LC Announces Top Thirty Scholars Competition

 Pineville, LA. High school students from across the state will compete this Saturday, January 19th from 8 a.m. to noon, in Louisiana College’s annual Clyde and Elizabeth Smith Scholarship Competition that will be held in the Granberry Conference Center on the LC campus. This year’s competition will include 32 students who have applied to LC for admission in the 2008-2009 academic year. Students must have an ACT score of 28 or higher to compete.

The 32 students (see list below) will participate in several activities during the competition including: group discussions, participating in leadership exercises and going through an interview process with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the academic council (made up of Louisiana College faculty members.) These activities will culminate in a banquet for the students and their parents, where the winner of the scholarship will be announced.

The winner of the Clyde and Elisabeth Smith Memorial Scholarship will receive a scholarship that will provide for tuition, room and board, and textbooks for four years at Louisiana College.

The other 31 finalists will each receive tuition scholarships in the amount of $32,000.

Louisiana College will hold registration for the spring 2008 semester this week. Registration will be held in the Granberry Conference Center. Pre-registered students must finalize registration on Thursday, January 10th according to the first letter of their last name:
