Louisiana College hosts Classical Guitarist, Stacy Arnold

Pineville, LA. … Louisiana College holds guest recital for Classical Guitarist

            The Louisiana College Department of Visual & Performing Arts is pleased to announce the fall guest recital on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall located in the Weathersby Fine Arts Building on the campus of Louisiana College.

            The guest musician is classical guitarist Stacy Arnold. Mr. Arnold holds a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University where he was a scholarship student and graduate teaching assistant to world-renowned performer and teacher Robert Guthrie. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN.

             Arnold currently is a professor of guitar at Hill College and Navarro College (Waxahachie campus), and previously Southwestern Assemblies of God University and North Central Texas College.

            Mr. Arnold’s concerts showcase the guitar’s heritage from Renaissance Spain through the 20th century with an emphasis on the music of Latin America.

            There will be a small reception immediately following the concert. This concert is free and open to the public.







Dr. Battalora honored with selection to committee

Pineville, LA… Louisiana College congratulates Dr. Elizabeth Battalora, chair of the Division of Nursing and Associate Professor of Nursing at Louisiana College, on her recent selection to serve on the CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) Item/Test Form Review Committee.  Battalora was selected by CCI (Competency & Credentialing Institute) which is the body of AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) that credentials operating room nurses to become certified in their specialty. 

“This is a tremendous honor for me,” explains Battalora, who has been a member of AORN since 1983 and certified with CNOR since 1987. In February, 2009, Battalora will travel to Denver, Colorado to participate in committee meetings. The work of the committee will provide the foundation for future CNOR exams.


U.S News & World Report names LC among America’s Best Colleges

 Pineville, LA.Louisiana College has once again been named in the U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Colleges report. The 2009 edition has ranked Louisiana College 45 in the Southern region, liberal arts category out of 319 baccalaureate colleges in the nation.

The method that the U.S. News & World Report uses to rank colleges and universities consists of several steps. First, the colleges are categorized by their mission and region, and then data are gathered from each on up to 16 indicators of academic excellence. The colleges in each category are ranked against their peers, based on their composite score. The U.S. News rankings are based on key measures of quality, which include: academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, student selectivity, faculty to student ratio and alumni giving.

LC graduate receives NATA award

Pineville, LAShellie Spiers, a 2008 graduate of the Louisiana College Athletic Training Program, has been nationally recognized as the Master’s Level recipient of the Research & Education Foundation Award by NATA (National Athletic Trainers’ Association). 

 Ms Spiers, who graduated this year with a 4.0 in Athletic Training, was also awarded the Louisiana College Athletic Training Educational Program Award for 2008.  She has been accepted into Baylor University’s graduate program on an assistantship and will be assisting with athletic training duties for Baylor’s 2008 football season.
