New Vice President for Academic Affairs announced

  Pineville, LA.The Louisiana College Office of the President is pleased to announce the hiring of Michael E. Travers, Ph.D. as the new Vice President for Academic Affairs at Louisiana College. Dr. Travers is a noted scholar with over 29 years of experience in Christian Higher Education.Dr. Travers will be moving to central Louisiana from Wake Forest, North Carolina and will begin his tenure at LC on July 14, 2008. “I am exceptionally proud to make this announcement,” explained Dr. Joe Aguillard, President of Louisiana College. “Dr. Travers is a man of great knowledge, experience and Christian principles.” “I am looking forward to working with him to continue to further the mission of Louisiana College.”

Dr. Travers has a record of high achievement in teaching, administration and scholarly publications. He graduated with honors from McMaster University with a B.A. in English. He then went on to receive his Master’s Degree from McMaster University in English. After graduation, Travers earned a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Education from the University of Western Ontario. He then went on to receive his Ph.D. in English from Michigan State University.

Dr. Travers has a deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and believes that integrating faith and learning is an essential component to teaching the whole student, mind, spirit, and body. “When our students graduate we want them to go out into their communities in their respective jobs and change their world for Christ,” explained Travers.

Travers is currently a professor of English at Southeastern College at Wake Forest, the undergraduate school of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Travers and his wife Barbara have two grown children, Stephen and Elizabeth, who live in Jackson, MS. “My wife and I have chosen to be a part of Louisiana College and we are looking forward to moving to central Louisiana,” said Travers.
