LC Music Dept. to host Guest and Faculty Recital

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College Department of Music will host a guest and faculty recital on Sunday, March 28th at 3pm in Presser Recital Hall, located in the Weathersby Fine Arts Building at Louisiana College.  Special guest will be Mr. Scott Topazi on saxophone, accompanied by LC artist-in-residence, Ms Mei-En Chou on piano.  The repertoire will include: Bencriscutto, Heiden, Boutry, Ibert. The recital is free and open to the public.


In addition to the LC recital, Topazi and Chou, both graduates of the University of North Texas, will take their recital on tour to the following venues:


March 27th at 7:30pm

Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA


March 30th at 1:00pm

Shelton State Community College, Tuscaloosa, AL

March 31st at 3:00pm

Mississippi College, Clinton, MS

Red River Wind Symphony Spring Concert

Pineville, LA… The Red River Wind Symphony, conducted by S. Andrew Hunter, will present a spring concert on Thursday, March 25th at 7:30 PM in Guinn Auditorium on the Louisiana College campus.   The concert is titled “Fanfare for the Uncommon Band” and features the music of Arnold, Bernstein, Boysen, Copland, Fucik, and Whitacre. The concert is free and open to the public.

Debate Team Results

Pineville, LA…The Louisiana College debate team has been busy competing this month. First, the team competed at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas, which featured two tournaments in one weekend. In overall results, the LC team finished 2nd in the first tournament and 3rd in the second tournament. Freshman team member, James Arnold, was a finalist in the competition.


Also this month, the team traveled to the University of Central Arkansas, in Conway, Arkansas, where junior English major, Stephanie Baer, took first place in the varsity division, and LC senior football team captain, Tony Webb, went 6-2 in the novice division. The tournament was a first for Webb, who finished as an octo-finalist.


The team will compete only once more this semester at the National’s Tournament at the University of Central Arkansas on March 25-28. According to debate coach Scot Loyd, “the team will finish in the top five nationally, and is poised to bring home multiple awards and possible national championships in all three divisions of debate.”


Caudell Cup Winners Announced

Pineville, LA…The Louisiana College Music Department announces the winners of the 2010 Caudell Cup Competition which took place on March 6, 2010 on the campus of Louisiana College. First place winner was Benjamin Reinehart, a junior at Southeastern Louisiana University studying under Dr Kenneth Boulton. Reinehart was awarded the prestigious Caudell Cup, as well as a cash prize of $400.  Additionally, Reinehart will have the honor of performing for the Pineville Kiwanis Club during one of their 2010 spring meetings.


Winning second place and a cash prize of $250, was Jana Kracjiova, a senior from Northwestern State University. Kracjiova studies under Dr. Francis Yang. Third place winner was Paul Holmes, a Louisiana College freshman. Holmes studies under Ms. Mei-En Chou, instructor of music and artist-in-residence at Louisiana College. He was awarded a $150 cash prize.

Social Work Department/Club sponsors “Toms Shoes Abroad”

Pineville, LA.The Louisiana College Department of Social Work and the LC Social Work Club is sponsoring “Toms Shoes Abroad.” For every pair of TOMS shoes purchased TOMS Shoes Company donates a pair of new shoes to a child in need.


Shoes have to be pre-ordered by March 19th and the cost per pair of shoes is $44 plus $1 for shipping. The white canvas shoes will be available for pick-up at 2 p.m. on April 26th in the Granberry Conference Center on the campus of Louisiana College.


“LC students, faculty, staff and central Louisiana community members are encouraged to participate,” said Sara Rush, President of the Social Work Club. “This is a great way to directly impact the life of a child in need.” Bethany Branim, treasurer of the Social Work Club agrees, “I encourage everyone to get involved, you know that your purchase will make a difference.”
