Div. of Nursing to hold Open House for A.B.S.N. program

Pineville, LA. The Louisiana College School of Nursing will host an open house on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in the Granberry Conference Center on the campus of Louisiana College. This event is for anyone interested in learning more about the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (A.B.S.N) degree.


The open house is an opportunity for prospective students to meet Dr. Sharp, Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health, as well as other LC nursing faculty. Information about admission, pre-requisites, tuition, financial aid and scholarships will also be available.

 Pineville, LA…Louisiana College music students recently competed at the annual (NATS) National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional Conference and Auditions held in Hammond on November 11-13.  The LC students were among over 500 students that attended from the tri-state region. (LA, AR and MS) Louisiana College Artist in Residence, Mei-En Chou, accompanied all of the LC students on piano, and Dr. Loryn Frey, Professor of Music at LC, participated as a judge for divisions in which her students did not participate.



 Winning First Place in the Junior Women division was Juliana Handy with “Song to the Moon,” sung in Czech, from the opera Rusalka by Antonin Dvorak.


Kameryn Lueng was a semi-finalist in the Senior Women division and was an on- stage participant in the Opera Workshop Master Class.


Benjamin Swain, was also a semi-finalist in the Senior Men division and an on -stage participant in the Opera Workshop Master Class.


John Simmons competed in the Junior Men division and was a semi-finalist.


Keri Beth Ellis competed in the Sophomore Women division and was a Semi-finalist.

Thanksgiving Break

Pineville, LA… Louisiana College students and faculty will be out for Thanksgiving Break at the end of classes Friday, November 19th until Monday, November 29th.  Dorms will close at 5:00 pm on November 19th and will reopen at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 28th for students to return to campus.  The business and academic offices will be open Monday and Tuesday, November 22nd and 23rd but will be closed Wednesday, November 24th through Friday, November 26th. All classes will resume and all offices will be open for normal business hours on Monday, November 30.  





4th Annual Follow the Star Dec. 2 & 3

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College invites the community to celebrate Christmas with the faculty, staff and students of Louisiana College as they host the  4th annual “Follow the Star—A Louisiana College Christmas” on Thursday and Friday, December 2nd and 3rd.  The two night event is a time of family fun, complete with thousands of Christmas lights, hot cocoa, crafts for the children and live reenactment of the Christmas story.


Additionally, LC’s Art Department will be having their annual Christmas Gallery Show and Sidewalk Sale in the Weathersby Fine Arts Building Gallery.  This year in conjunction with the art sale, the Art Club will be demonstrating an iron pour on Friday night.


New this year is the “Christmas on a Hill” musical performance directed by Dr. Fred Guilbert, Chair of the LC music department. The special musical will feature various LC singing ensembles including: The Voices of LC, Chorale, The Louisianians, and solo performances. “Christmas on a Hill” will be performed twice each night of Follow the Star in the Martin Performing Arts Center Theater. Performance times are 6:30 and 7:30.


The main attraction of the event will remain the reenactment of the Biblical account of Christ’s birth, including live animals and student actors.  As always, Follow the Star is Louisiana College’s Christmas gift to the community and the events are free and open to the public.

Debate Team Results

Pineville, LA… The LC Debate Team recently finished third overall at the LSUS tournament in Shreveport, where they competed against about thirty colleges, including LSU, Alabama, and Boise State. In the novice division, Devin Moncada and Ann “Snowflake” Sawyer closed out the tournament as co-champions, bringing home another tournament victory for LC. This victory comes on the heels of Team Captain, Andrew Dufour, bringing home a tournament championship in the varsity division at the LSUA tournament.


According to debate team coach, Scot Loyd, “Everyone is competing very well this year and we are poised to make a run at an overall National Championship in Debate for LC!”
