Music Dept. to Present Two Operas

Pineville, LA…The Louisiana College Department of Music will present two operas scheduled to run four days. Opening night is Thursday, February 4 at 7:30 pm in the Martin Performing Arts Center (MPAC). Additional show dates/times are February 5-6 at 7:30 pm and one matinee performance on Sunday, February 7th at 2:30pm. 

 

Both operas will be presented each night with an intermission between the two.  The first is a comedy, The Impresario, by W. A. Mozart. Cast members include: baritone, Benjamin Swain as Impresario Scruples; soprano, Kameryn Lueng as Madame Goldentrill; and soprano, Juliana Wimberly-Handy, as Miss Silverpeal.

 

The second opera, The Old Maid and the Thief, is a drama by Gian Carlo Menotti. Cast members include: Juliana Wimberly-Handy as Miss Todd- the old maid; Benjamin Swain as Bob-The Wanderer/Thief; Kameryn Lueng, as Laetitia- Miss Todd’s maid; and soprano, Loryn Frey as Miss Pinkerton-Miss Todd’s spinster neighbor.

 

The operas are directed by Loryn Frey. Conductor will be Andrew Hunter; Pianists are Mei-En Chou and Daniel Hill. Set designs are by Ross Schexnayder.

 

Ticket prices for performances are:  Adults-$10, Students-$5, LC Students, Faculty and Staff-$2.  Reservations can be made by calling the LC Department of Music office at 487-7336.  Tickets will also be available at the door.
