LC Art Professor to participate in Indonesian seminar and workshop

May 22nd, 2008

Pineville, LA. Mr. Rondall Reynoso, Coordinator of the Louisiana College Art Department and professor of art, was recently chosen to participate in a two week seminar and workshop in Indonesia this summer. The program, Christianity and the Visual Arts in Indonesia, is sponsored by the Nagel Institute at Calvin College in Grand Rapides, Michigan and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.

Along with the selected group of North American visual artists, a group of artists from the Asian/Pacific region will also be a part of the program. Together they will work to recognize and highlight the power of visual arts as a Christian endeavor, and aim to inspire Christian visual artists in both North America and in Asia to express the new global character of Christianity.

The group will visit galleries, museums, churches, temples and studios while in Indonesia. When the program is completed, each participant will contribute a piece of art or written work using the theme, “The Many Languages of Faith in the Visual Arts.” These works will be compiled into a traveling visual arts exhibit.

The Nagel Institute was founded in 2006 as a service of Calvin College to those who study the rise of Christianity in the global south and east, and to others who are eager to see Christian thought and cultural engagement flourish in those regions.
