Louisiana College Debate Team participated in tournament at LSUA

Spencer Brown, an Alexandria junior, won Second Place in the Novice Division of the 2007 Oak Tree Invitational Debate Tournament hosted by LSU at Alexandria January 20-21.

The LC debater was undefeated in the six preliminary rounds and advanced to the quarterfinals where he won a 3-0 decision over Azck Williams of Stephen F. Austin State (TX) University.  In the semi-final round he won 2-1 over Josh Mohon of the University of Louisiana at Monroe but lost in the final round to Leigh Masling of Louisiana Tech University.

Datha Bustard, an Alexandria senior, advanced to the quarter final rounds where she defeated Matt LaCaze of LTU but lost a 2-1 decision to Billy Wiggins of SFA to tie for Third Place in the Varsity Division.

Ethan Boothe, a Harrisonburg sophomore, gained the elimination rounds but was defeated in the quarter finals by Chris Halley of the University of Arkansas at Monticello also in the Varsity Division.

Louisiana College took Fourth Place in the tournament thanks to wins in the Novice Division by Blake Gardner of New Boston, TX, Kris Lee of Shreveport, and Rachel Melancon of Lafayette.

Varsity Division points were won by Jeffery Boydstun of Dry Prong, Allison Steed of Pearl River, and Haylie Treas of Sulphur.

The next tournament for the LC Debate Squad will be February 3 and 4 at the Bicker Debates hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
