Voice Students Win at NATS Conference

Pineville, LA…Several voice students recently represented Louisiana College at the 2008 National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Regional Conference and Auditions in Natchitoches, LA, where six of the seven students who competed either advanced to the semi-finals or placed in their divisions. Kameryn Lueng, sophomore music major from Pineville, won first place in the Sophomore Women’s division, out of a field of fifty-two women, while Juliana Wimberly, freshman music major from Baton Rouge, placed third out of a field of fifty-nine women in the Freshmen Women’s division.  Both students received an award certificate and prize check.  

In addition to the above winners, other students advancing to semi-finals were:  Margie McBride, Sophomore Women; Ben Swain, Sophomore Men; John Simmons, Freshmen Men, and Chelsea Hill, High School Women.  

According to Dr. Loryn Frey, Chair of the Division of Visual and Performing Arts at LC and Coordinator of the Department of Music, the finalists and winners of this year’s competition will have the opportunity to participate in master classes at next year’s event which will be held at Harding University in Arkansas.  Louisiana College competes in a three-state region that consists of Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. This year’s conference had 488 students in attendance, representing 94 NATS members.
