Louisiana College Debate Team Wraps up the Semester

Pineville, LA…Louisiana College Debate team recently wrapped up the semester at the LSUS tournament in Shreveport.  Out of 140 competitors, three of five Louisiana College varsity competitors posted winning records and five of the ten novice competitors posted winning records as well. Freshman debater, Jesus Carillo, finished as an octi-finalist in the novice division, and sophomore, Lauren Dunn, was a quarter finalists and 5th speaker over all in the varsity division.  Debate coach, Scot Lyod, also finished as a quarter finalist and 4th speaker overall in Open Division.  

 Earlier this month, the team competed at the Tyler Junior College tournament in Tyler, TX and won third place overall in the tournament.  Additionally, four team members competed at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, where freshman, Nick Davis, had a winning record as novice.

 “I am pleased with the overall performance of the squad,” debate coach Scot Loyd said, “We’ve had a good semester, with both 2nd and 3rd place wins.”  Loyd said he anticipates an even better spring semester.

Next semester, the team will be competing at several area tournaments, including a regional tournament (TBA), LSU, Bossier City Community College, and LSUS.
