2009 Smith Scholar Announced

Pineville, LA…Students from around the state competed on Saturday, January 24th in the annual Louisiana College Clyde and Elizabeth Smith Memorial Scholarship Competition. Thirty-two students who have applied for admission in the 2009 -2010 academic year were invited to participate.

Mary Unsworth of Sulphur, Louisiana was awarded the Smith Scholarship according to Byron McGee, Director of Enrollment Management. As the winner, Unsworth will receive a scholarship which will provide for her tuition, room and board for her four years at Louisiana College. “The Clyde and Elizabeth Smith Memorial Scholarship is the highest honor given at Louisiana College and we are proud to have Mary as an incoming student and recipient of this prestigious award,” said McGee.

The other finalists will each receive tuition scholarships consisting of $32,000 for four years at LC.

Mary Unsworth is a senior at Kingswood Academy School where she has a 4.0 grade point average and received a 34 on the ACT. She plans to major in history and theatre arts. “Mary is an exceptional student and we are delighted she will be part of our program,” said Dr. Henry Robertson, Chair of the Division of History and Political Science. Mary attends Maplewood First Baptist Church and is the daughter of Thomas and Renee Unsworth.
